Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make Dr. William White – Optometrist a proud provider of vision care products and services in Memphis.

Dr. William White

Dr. William (Bill) White is a native Memphian who attended Wooddale High School and the University of Memphis. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry. Dr. White has served as an officer in the West Tennessee Optometric Society. He has been in private practice since 1980 and at his location on Summer Avenue since 1981. Dr. White practices full scope optometric care, from comprehensive eye exams to pre- and post-operative care for cataract surgery. He also has expertise in diagnosing and treating ocular diseases. Dr. White also fits all major brands of contact lenses including contacts for astigmatism and multifocal wearers.

Dr. White is the founder of Football, Fellowship and Faith an outreach ministry that has provided football and basketball tickets for underprivileged youth in Memphis since 2003. He is married to his wife, Lynn, and they have two sons, Eddie and James, and a grandson, Teddy. Dr. White enjoys spending time with his family, watching college basketball and football, playing golf and has been known to do a magic trick or two for the young patients in his office.

Carol Howell – Optometric Assistant, Insurance Coordinator

Carol is a native of Munford, Tennessee. While her husband was in the military, she lived in New Orleans, Louisiana; Norfolk, Virginia; Long Island, New York and Mount Clemens, Michigan and she now calls Millington, Tennessee home. Carol has over 20 years of experience in the optical industry. She has been a member of our eye care team since 2007. Carol’s background includes frame selection and adjustments, contact lens insertion and removal training and insurance claims and benefits. She is happy to assist patients with any questions they have about their insurance benefits. Carol’s spare time is spent with her family’ especially her grandchildren.

Julie Smith-Gibson – Optometric Assistant

Julie is a native Memphian who has 20 years of experience in the optical industry. She has been a member our eye care team since 1998. Julie currently serves as the Vision Source representative for Dr. White’s office. She loves helping patients with their frame selection and adjustments as well as providing information on the newest technology in optical lenses. Julie enjoys helping new contact patients with learning how to insert and remove their contacts. Her spare time is spent with her daughter, family and friends.

Bill Cook – ABO Certified Optician

Bill is the newest member of our eye care team. He is a 1987 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi. Bill has been a certified optician since 1999 and has 25 years of experience in the optical industry. He is glad to help patients with their frame selection and adjustments as well as providing information on the newest technology in optical lenses. Bill’s spare time is spent with his wife and daughter. He likes reading, writing, watching movies and tending to their pets – a Bichon Frise dog and their cats.
